Name: Rick Keller
Coaching Experience:
Coach Keller has coached basketball at nearly every level—from preschool to varsity—over a span of more than 16 years. He is currently entering his third season as the Head Coach of the Gettysburg Girls Varsity Basketball Team, after previously serving as an assistant coach for one year.
In addition to his varsity role, Rick serves as a Head Coach and Board Member with Mid Penn Motion AAU, where he has coached girls teams from 4th through 8th grade over the past five years. He has also led both boys’ and girls’ programs in Littlestown and Gettysburg, developing hundreds of players through youth leagues, junior high, and AAU competition.
Rick’s coaching résumé also includes time at major summer programs such as Syracuse University, Notre Dame University, and the Keystone State Shootout, where he worked with competitive varsity and junior high athletes. His experience as a PIAA Basketball Official (10+ years) has further enhanced his understanding of the game and rules from multiple perspectives.
Playing Experience:
A graduate of Littlestown High School, Rick continued his basketball career at Penn State Fayette (Division III). His years as a player instilled in him the value of teamwork, discipline, and continuous effort—principles he now brings to his coaching philosophy every day.
Favorite Coaching Memory:
Coach Keller’s favorite coaching memories come from watching his players grow into confident young women—seeing a player hit her first three-pointer, earn a varsity role, or achieve a college opportunity. Each of those moments, big or small, reflects the progress and belief that drive his purpose as a coach.
Coaching Philosophy:
Coach Keller’s program is built on three pillars: play fast, make quick decisions, and always be aggressive. His teams press and attack for 32 minutes, emphasizing pace, pressure, and unselfish play. Offensively, his players learn to make reads, share the ball, and attack with confidence. Defensively, his teams are known for relentless energy and communication. Beyond basketball, Rick’s focus is on accountability, effort, and self-growth—preparing his athletes for success in life.
Why Do You Coach at Gettysburg?
“I coach at Gettysburg because I believe in building something lasting. Our focus is on player development, community pride, and creating opportunities for student-athletes to grow both on and off the court. Gettysburg has an incredible foundation of talent, families, and support—it’s a special place to coach and lead.”
